Tucson, known for it’s beautiful sunsets, wicked monsoon season, amazing Mexican food, and finally the best place to bring everyone together, the University of Arizona. Sports are a big part of this town, especially the party before the game: tailgate. Where everyone can walk around the mall with a drink in your hand and see old friends and make new ones. This particular day, it was very hot like any good football game is. My mom and I were wandering around through, grabbing some snacks, and having a nice cold beverage in our hands. Walking into the stadium, it was like any typical game: adult beverage, kettle corn, and a random jersey that was on sale. As we settled into our seats, the growing anticipation of the game ahead made my mom and I excited. As I turned around to stretch, I looked down and saw behind me a pair of cowboy boots. I remember thinking how strange, but than I looked up a little more…. As I slowly brought my gaze up, I saw some rugged and worn blue jeans with a long sleeve shirt and finally settled on the most beautiful pair of eyes I had ever seen. I turned around and thought huh he’s kind of cute. As the game started, I heard his laugh and how much he enjoyed the game. Soon, as it happens to everyone, he had to break the seal. Now please keep in mind, this was the first time I heard him speak, and I all I saw was his mullet and SnapBack. I heard some people telling him to grab them snacks on the way down and he turned around. And when I tell you I couldn’t stop laughing, because what he said was along the lines of, “ It’s my birthday and I’m not getting anything for you guys.” (If you know, you know) ;) As I recovered from laughing, I knew he had a good sense of humor. When he came to sit back down, he tapped my shoulder and I turned around and looked into those warm hazel eyes and he said, “ My parents are trying to embarrass me and asked your mom if you were single and she said yes so” and I remember laughing and holding out my hand and telling this goofy country boy my name. Again, if you know, you know 😅 Anyways, I’m getting off topic, he got my number at the end of the game, and some would say the rest is history. We would go to almost every home game together that season and shared so many memories. We spent our first spooky season together and in the pumpkin patch as the sun setting, he asked, “ are you going to be my girlfriend?” And that was an easy yes. In the fall of 2022, on a trip to the most magical place on earth, during the most amazing time of year, my goofy country boy brought me to the castle and made all of my dreams come true. He got down on one knee, and asked me to be his best friend for the rest of his life and that, was the best yes of my life.
