Kathy joined her roommate and Steven at the Odegaard Library at the University of Washington in our junior year. All three of us studied together before walking back to our apartments. Steven conveniently lived in the apartment building right across the street, and he came over to Kathy's apartment to hang out EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. The three of us became the three musketeers, and Kathy and Steven became the best of friends. Right before we graduated Steven decided to climb his way out of the friend zone and finally asked Kathy out, and the rest is history!

Kathy and Steven drove down to LA to visit Steven's family in June 2021. As the trip was approaching, Steven started telling Kathy that he had a VIP chocolate tour planned and that there would probably be a photographer there, so look nice. Kathy immediately thought this was suspicious since it was a very specific plan that Steven didn't talk to Kathy about before. The evening of the "VIP chocolate tour", Steven drove Kathy to a hotel in Beverly Hills. There was a bouncer at the hotel driveway turning away all the cars approaching as there was a huge event that night. Kathy noticed that Steven started getting noticeably nervous and he started texting his event planner. As our car approached the driveway, he told the bouncer that he had a private event at the hotel and we were let in! We were greeted at the hotel entrance by the event planner, she introduced herself as hotel staff and talked about how much fun we would have at the "VIP chocolate tour." We were led to the rooftop with stunning views of downtown LA. As we approached the top, there were rose petals placed in the shape of a heart, and the words MARRY ME in marquee lights. Even though Kathy saw the proposal coming, she still started crying instantly. After Steven got down on one knee and proposed, we took some pictures with the photographer, and then to Kathy's surprise her mom and brother came out. Kathy started crying AGAIN! AND THEN Kathy's middle school best friend came out too and Kathy cried, YET AGAIN! It had been almost 2 years since Kathy had seen her family and her best friend, and it was so meaningful to be able to share such a special time with them.
