In February 2019, through an online dating site, Charlie reached out to me. He says now that he knew right away when he saw my picture in a Steelers jersey that I was the one. We chatted online but kept missing each other when trying to make a live connection. Charlie was very persistent and after a month of texting and him having me in stitches most of the time, I was too intrigued to resist! and agreed to a first date - in person. The date was to be on a Thursday. I had to work out of town Monday through Wednesday that week but planned to meet him Thursday after working from home. Little did I know we'd actually meet sooner - when I arrived at the Airport from my long workday on Wednesday and came down the stairs headed toward the parking lot, I saw him standing there waiting with a single rose in hand - luckily he looked like his online pictures! We said hello, hugged and he walked me to my car. Now some may think that was a little 'stalker-like', but it really did steal my heart - some bonus points so to speak!

To say our union was fated might sound cliché or even presumptuous, but there really is no other way to explain it. One of us a NoCal pony-tailed prodigy at EVERYTHING, out to dispel the myth that throwing/shooting like a girl was an insult, and living the life so poignantly portrayed in Kid Rock’s All Summer Long. Whether riding horses, catching lizards, or hitting the midrange J, nothing could stop this one from being exactly who she was. Marriage and kids followed; though the marriage hollowed, her life and love for her kids grew. Eight years Kathy waited to dip her toes in the dating pool again… what was she waiting for? The other of us a SoCal curly-headed soccer freak with a love for all things sports and family. Born and bred a Bruin for all-time, a wife and kids would follow and teaching and coaching would become his contribution. Grown apart in the marriage; his children would be his life’s work. Believing he was Louganis 2.0, Charles couldn’t wait to take the plunge… what was the hurry?

A perfect mate, or at least a promising date, was guaranteed on Match, so we both drank the Kool-Aid, oh my! Profile after profile, so many fish in the sea, how to choose, who will it be? Blonde and bodacious, nah. Perty and flirty, nope. Brunette and Aquanet, no way! Red and drop dead… He’s intrigued. Texts on the run and begging for a shot were now his goal in life. She was too busy, too in demand, too taken already to give ChawLee Boy a shot… yet he persisted. Won over by his mad game (stalker-ways), they agreed to meet for dinner and exhilarating conversation. Not fearing for her life just yet, Kat agreed to extend the date to midnight mini-golf… big mistake! The two engaged in a battle for the ages, not giving an inch, but maybe a pinch. Who won? ChawLee would say Kat was the big winner, and Kat would be happy to agree to that bull, but ever since that day the two have been inseparable. I guess that makes everyone else the winners because these two are off the market forever!

No matter what the story is that led us to today or how we came to be, one thing is true for sure - Charlie and Kat were meant to be together. Yes, we have a love of sports in common, but it is so much more than that. We bring out the good in each other and make each other happy beyond imagination. We have had many wonderful adventures in the 2+ years we have been together but we both know it is just the beginning and we cannot wait to see what all the future holds for us as Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins.
