We love to tell the story of how we came to be a couple. It’s filled with so many embarrassing moments that just perfectly came together to make the story of us- and we wouldn’t have it any other way! Michael wrestled for Kathryn's dad when he was in high school and Kathryn went to their rival school. Years of casually seeing each other around and nothing ever really came of it. However, after college we found ourselves trying to date through dating apps. When Kathryn came across Michael, she approached her dad and asked if he still happened to talk to Michael. Kathryn's dad raved about what a good kid Michael was and how much he liked his family. He was so excited that Kathryn was showing an interest in him! So much so, that he immediately called Michael to give him her number. Michael, being the nice guy that he is, politely told him okay. A few weeks later, Kathryn's dad reached out to her to see if Michael had called...and he hadn't. Kathryn was so embarrassed at how he went about things that she bet her dad $50 that he wouldn't call her and he was just being nice on the phone. Well, leave it to a dad to make sure things happen in the most embarrassing way ever! Kathryn's dad went to the dealership where Michael was working and told him "I thought I told you to call my daughter." Michael, with a smile, assured my dad that he was going to but he just hadn't gotten around to it yet. To Kathryn's surprise a few weeks later, he called her and they had the most awkward phone call ever. After the call, she sent him a text saying she hoped they could get together the next time she was in town. Michael likes to tell the story from here a little differently than Kathryn does... The way Kathryn saw it, when she came home she messaged him to possibly go out for a drink, Michael waited until the last day to message her back and tell her that he was sorry but he was busy at work. She felt their previous call was just out of pity because her dad made such a stink over it. However, Michael will tell you that he truly was busy and he just didn't get around to messaging Kathryn back until it was almost time for her to head back to NC. Needless to say, now Kathryn feels like the latter is true but she still likes to give him a hard time about it. A few weeks later, Kathryn made her return back to VA, and because she felt semi-rejected by Michael, she decided to swipe right on him on another dating app instead of messaging him to let him know she was in town. Michael was quick to call her out on it and ending up texting to see if she was free for a date the next day. We ended up having our first "date," which at the time Michael wasn't sure if it really was because my dad stated that I was looking for a "friend" (okay, dad), and we both hated to leave that night. Kathryn invited Michael to come to NC some time to visit and within a month's time he was coming to stay with her for the first time. It was in that weekend that Kathryn knew Michael was going to be the man that she was going to marry...and the rest is history! We've been together ever since, growing as a couple, and we cannot wait to spend the rest of our lives together.
