A classic--almost too obvious to include here. Walking the Mall is a quintessential DC experience. We particularly recommend a nighttime stroll, if you're able, when the illuminated monuments are particularly gorgeous.
A wonderful French-inspired food option just a couple of blocks from the LINE hotel in Adams Morgan--an excellent choice for dinner before our welcome event!
The International Spy Museum, which recently moved to a large, beautiful location south of the Mall, has reopened with COVID procedures in place. Though famous for its Cold War-era espionage artifacts and interactive exhibits, the move to its larger home also included updated exhibits on twenty-first century technology like drones. Note that the museum is not part of the Smithsonian, so it does charge admission.
Katie routinely craves these (massive) burgers, but their curry chips are her go-to. Mark can also vouch for their ridiculous fried chicken sandwich.
If you're looking for art while the Smithsonian remains closed, check out the Phillips Collection, open with timed tickets to maintain social distancing. The modern art collection celebrates its centennial this year! Tickets may be free depending on the time of your visit.
You'll need coffee and brunch to keep you awake through the Catholic wedding, right? Check out Tryst, down the block from the LINE. It can be a bit busy, but it's a good option. Katie used to spend hours here reading on the weekends while interning in DC, since there's a used bookstore right next door...
Georgetown is one of the cutest areas of DC and a great way to spend some time outdoors. While shopping on M Street can be crowded, wander the charming residential neighborhood, stroll along the Potomac waterfront, or walk a part of the C&O Canal trail (accessible at 29th and M).
A Michelin-starred, Michelle Obama-approved restaurant two blocks from the LINE hotel, Tail Up Goat is a fantastic option if you're looking for a little bit of a splurge. Its sister restaurant around the corner, Reveler's Hour, offers a more casual, but no less tasty, alternative.
The Smithsonian needs no explaining, and all its museums are a great way to spend a couple of hours on a weekend. That said, the Museum of American History is one of our favorites.
Calico was nailing casual, no frills, fun outdoor drinking before the pandemic. Their 21-and-over juice boxes are infamous in DC.
The newest Smithsonian museum is a stunning and powerful experience. Advanced bookings are recommended, though some walk-up tickets may be available. More ticket details available on their website.
Mark will never not be salty there's no Flying Saucer in DC, but Dacha is a super popular biergarten that's a good bet for something fun and casual.
