It's an unexpected thing for a love story to begin in the musty halls of a church youth retreat, but we always have taken pride in the unexpected parts of our story. We met freshman year of high school, brought together by the zany games and compelling discussions of our local church group. After two years of getting to know each other, the two of us made it official junior year, with our first date being to Leigh High School’s prom. While it may not have been a good idea for Logan to immediately showcase his atrocious dance moves to Kathryn, the fact that she wasn’t immediately turned away by this was a good sign of things to come. We continued dating throughout high school and into college, where we began four years of long distance. The two of us were separated by more than 700 miles, with Kathryn at the University of Oregon and Logan at Cal Poly SLO. Despite the distance, we stayed close with frequent Facetimes, the occasional mid-quarter meetup, and a constant back and forth of adorable animal videos. Summers were always a treat, allowing us to experience the sweet normalcy of seeing each other in-person more frequently than our usual quarterly rate. After both of us graduated amidst the highly unusual circumstances of 2020, we returned to Northern California to navigate post-undergraduate uncertainties together. Kathryn applied her Excel artistry as a financial analyst, while Logan’s questionable love of learning drove him back to school, pursuing his PhD in Genetics. Kathryn took residence in the bustle of San Francisco, while Logan moved up to Davis. Seeing each other every other weekend, we uncovered the hidden gems of San Francisco and affectionately moo’d at the Davis Dairy cows, amongst other activities. More than anything, the two of us soaked up all the warm feelings of moving through life with a partner you love by your side. With the invaluable assistance of both sides of the family, Logan made a surprise beachfront proposal to Kathryn on September 10th, 2022. While Kathryn recounts her memory of the proposal as a blur, Logan can assure you that, thankfully, she said yes. Now living together in Woodland, we can’t wait to celebrate with you all in San Luis Obispo soon! Through all the unexpected twists and turns of our story together, our friends and family have provided the support that allowed us to grow together. We can think of no better way to celebrate our marriage than to do it with all of you. So let’s party! See you in SLO.
