Doing the dating app thing is cringe-worthy at best. I'm sure he and I could tell some great anecdotes but I'll save you time and cut to his first contact with me - looking back at it, he was totally himself right off the bat. He messaged me asking if I knew what Matt Pike's favorite t-shirt was (he's the frontman for a couple of the bands I had listed under music) and when I said 'no' he sent me a link with a series of photos of Matt performing - I hadn't seen Sleep or High on Fire live (yet) so I didn't get the joke until I saw the pictures. It was sweaty man image after sweaty man image. Matt never wears a shirt when he's on stage. James made a great first impression. He actually read my profile and interests and he made me laugh! We chatted for a couple of weeks then had our first date. It happened to be on Valentine's Day and I asked him to meet at my favorite dive bar. He tells the story of me walking in something like this; I walked straight through the crowd with purpose and totally unbothered, then immediately declared that I was only having two drinks, and ordered a beer and a whisky shot. I remember him wearing his Zig Zags tee, sitting at the bar, and looking grumpy. He hasn't stopped looking grumpy or making me laugh :)
