It all began over dinner in Portland, Oregon—thanks to mutual friends who clearly knew what they were doing, even if they unknowingly set the stage for something magical. From our very first conversation, there was an undeniable spark. We connected instantly over our shared love of coaching basketball, our passion for people, and a deep appreciation for good times and laughter. Kathleen was drawn in by Rico’s contagious laugh and warm spirit. Rico was instantly captivated by Kathleen’s beautiful smile, bright eyes, and those unforgettable dimples. That evening was filled with amazing conversation, laughter, and genuine connection—our hearts already beginning to recognize home in one another. It was the sweet beginning of a forever kind of love. From that night on, we’ve been inseparable. We weathered the pandemic—unprecedented times for our nation and during an NBA shutdown—together, starting at Kathleen’s cozy Sacramento home, which was fully stocked like a mini Costco. Our days were filled with long walks (especially wine walks!), hikes, elderberry everything, and countless spontaneous social distancing grocery runs. We ordered every cooking gadget imaginable from Amazon and turned our home into a little haven—filled with laughter, games, and experimental recipes that became new family favorites. Even in the quiet chaos of those uncertain days, we found joy. We played yard games, laughed endlessly, listened to music (especially D-Nice), danced, went on socially distanced dates with friends, and built a rhythm as a family. Kathleen was helping small business owners secure PPP loans, and Rico endured life without NBA basketball—yet somehow, our love only grew stronger. That season proved to us both that if we could thrive through a pandemic, we could conquer anything. Together, we’ve continued to rise—encouraging each other, dreaming bigger, and pushing one another to the next level. Rico’s journey led him from the Sacramento Kings, to the Toronto Raptors, and now to the Philadelphia 76ers as Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development. Kathleen earned two major promotions at JPMorgan Chase, rising to Executive Director in Business Banking and, most recently, relocating to Raleigh, North Carolina—where we chose to plant roots and build our first home together in Rico’s home state. And just before moving in, at Rico’s mother’s beautiful home in Greenville, North Carolina, surrounded by family and friends over Sunday dinner—Rico asked Kathleen to be his wife. We are best friends, soulmates, and partners in purpose—and we love each other with our whole hearts. We cannot wait to celebrate our love and the beginning of forever with all of you.
