Mass in Latin

Question

What will be different about the Nuptial Mass?

Answer

If you have been to a Catholic wedding before, this will be largely similar. However, we will use the Latin version of the Mass and will be celebrated ad orientem.

Question

Why Latin?

Answer

Latin is the traditional language of the Church and her liturgies. Its prevalence cannot be understated and clinging to it unites us to all of the Saints who come before us.

Question

What is "ad orientem" and why will the priest face away from us?

Answer

"Ad Orientem" is Latin for "to the East". This orientation of the Mass goes back through the millennia and finds its origin in that, at Christ's second coming, He will return from whence He came; therefore, we look in the direction He went in hope to be among the first to see His return. Additionally, the priest will not be facing away from us anymore than the person in the pew in front of you will be facing away from you. We all face the same direction; this is emphasized in the priest as he is the head of the congregation.
