Kat and Yonatan met during pediatric residency in their now favorite city, Tucson. They both insist they noticed each other first. Either way, they started sitting closer and closer to each other during Teaching Day, each secretly looking forward to it all week. Yonatan finally asked Kat out for dinner, although she had no idea it was a date until after the appetizer.
Before the last wedding attempt: A very tough decision between hiking, scuba diving, watching sunsets, walking dogs or eating tacos, but the absolute best would be as Johnny Cash put it, "This morning, drinking coffee, with her." Nowadays: Without a doubt, playing with the “Shel Bell.”
Climbing a mountain at sunset. Standing on a hotel roof at sunset. Scuba diving at sunset. Eating fried chicken in a dirt parking lot at sunset. Notice a theme?
Kat and Yonatan were lucky enough to have the first months of their relationship together in the same city. Afterwards, the vagaries of the graduate medical education system kept them 1000 miles apart. Fortunately, falling asleep together on FaceTime and near-monthly in-person visits bridged the distance and Kat happily said yes in 2019 at which point a wedding was set for May of 2020. We all know how that went. Long story short, there is something about surviving a pandemic on the front lines that really puts all the priorities in perspective. After another wave of COVID and another failed attempt to wed, Yonatan and Kat shrugged their shoulders and decided to go for what they wanted most, to start their family. Still deep in the pandemic, the couple were ecstatic to welcome Shel Joseph in September of 2021. Now they are ready to try again for that wedding…. Crossing their fingers that third times a charm.
