About a 2 hour drive from Ashland you can experience our favorite place in Oregon! Crater Lake is the deepest lake on our continent and is formed in a volcanic crater. We like to make a day out of it and stop at the Natural Bridge and Mill Creek Falls on our way. Make sure you bring a jacket, it is always chilly at Crater Lake.
In our hometown of Grants Pass (about an hour north of Ashland) are the Hellgate jet boats excursions. These are a fantastic and fun experience, but you need to book early because they do fill up fast. Dress to get soaked!
About two and a half hours from the Ashland Springs Hotel you will find the northern part of the redwoods. There are so many trails to find. Feel free to reach out to us for some recommendations of our favorites. The redwoods are only about twenty minutes away from the coast if you want to take in some beach views too!
Only a few hours away and an incredibly beautiful drive alongside the Smith River and through the Redwoods, you will reach the Oregon coast. There are many different beaches to choose from and quite a few beautiful hikes on the coast.
Here in Southern Oregon there are dozens of wineries around. You won't have to go far to find them. If you want to make a day of wine tasting. You can hop on one of the many wine tour companies busses or schedule your own tour.
The Oregon Caves provide a guided walking tour deep underground through the twisted tunnels that make up this national monument. Make sure to bring warm clothing and don't wear anything that you wore in other cave systems.
On the way to Crater Lake, you can stop by and see this 173 ft. waterfall. The full hike is 1.4 miles long, but you don't have to walk very far to see the waterfall itself.
Applegate lake is a beautiful outdoor recreation area. You could go for a swim or rent a paddleboat to explore this beautiful area.
Half an hour north of Ashland there are 2 hikes where you can get an amazing view of the whole valley. Upper Table Rock and Lower Table rock are plateaus which you can hike to the top of to explore. Lower table rock hike is shorter and steeper than Upper table rock hike but both are beautiful.
All across Oregon there are incredibly beautiful hikes. We like to use the All Trails app to find our hikes. You can choose if you want to hike to a river, a waterfall, a cool view, or a beach all while enjoying beautiful southern Oregon nature. The beauty of Tamolitch Falls, also known as Blue Pool, has always made it a popular hiking spot. Formed by a lava flow from Belknap Crater 1,600 years ago buried a 3 mile stretch of the McKenzie River between Carmen Reservoir and Tamolitch Falls. The river resurfaces at Tamolitch Pool at the base of dry Tamolitch Falls, seeping up to the surface through the porous lava, creating a pristine turquoise blue colored pool. The water, a chilly 37 degrees Fahrenheit on average, reflects the surrounding cliffs covered with alder and evergreen trees.
There are many different rivers and rafting experiences to choose from in Southern Oregon. Choose which style you like whether it is a guided trip through tricky rapids, or lolligagging down a calm stretch of river guide free. All experience levels are welcome.
Take a stroll down from the hotel to beautiful downtown Ashland. Check out the local shops and eateries, and if you are feeling adventurous, take a sip from a Lithia fountain.

On the way to Crater Lake you could stop at the Natural Bridge hiking trail. It is a short, paved 2.4 mile round trip hike which follows the Rogue River to the Natural Bridge. A short bridge made out of old lava tubes where the river disappears into a lava tube for a 250 ft stretch and appears on the other side.
