Jonah and Katherine met in June 2019 at Christopher Newport University during orientation for the President’s Leadership Program. Assigned to the same color team, they formed an immediate connection. On the final day, participants exchanged handwritten notes on paper plates; Jonah wrote that Katherine was “the most amazing person he’d ever met,” a keepsake she has held onto ever since. They began dating on July 4, 2019, after a movie and milkshakes at Silver Diner. Katherine was drawn to Jonah’s blend of passion and gentleness, while Jonah admired Katherine’s humor, determination, and her ability to make even ordinary days feel meaningful. From the beginning, their relationship has been grounded in intention, shaped by a consistent choice to show up for one another in both significant moments and everyday life. Jonah often expresses this care through writing poetry for Katherine, a reflection of the thoughtfulness that defines their partnership. Throughout college, they supported one another while balancing demanding schedules, campus involvement, and the transitions that come with growing together. After graduation, Jonah frequently traveled to visit Katherine while she completed graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. Those visits allowed them to explore new places and deepen their relationship. When Katherine later moved to Charlottesville for a research position at the University of Virginia, Jonah joined her soon after. Following a year in research, Katherine chose to pursue a second master’s degree in Legal Studies at William and Mary. During this same period, Jonah began training with Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing while continuing his Bachelor of Business Administration. Advancing their careers simultaneously brought a shared sense of purpose and stability to this stage of their lives. While in Charlottesville, they adopted their cat, Aspen, from the ASPCA. Loud, toothless, and full of personality, she quickly became the center of their home. They also discovered Valley Road Vineyard, which became a favorite place to spend time together and unwind on weekends. Choosing it as their wedding venue felt especially meaningful, as it already held many of their favorite memories. They recently relocated to Johns Island, South Carolina, where Katherine began her role at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center as a Clinical Trial Liaison. In this position, she works to connect the community with clinical research opportunities and expand access to care. This move represents another intentional step forward, reflecting their shared commitment to both meaningful work and a life built together. On November 2, 2024, Jonah proposed to Katherine. Now, nearly seven years after that summer orientation, they continue to learn from one another, support each other, and find joy in everyday moments. They look forward to celebrating their wedding at Valley Road Vineyard and to the future they will continue to build together.
