Our Story

Jason and Katherine first met at a pre-residency barbecue hosted by Amy Park, for which Katherine was running late to and had to email Amy to unlock the door. Jason’s first impression? “Email? Wow… lame.” Katherine’s first impression? Jason getting tossed into the pool by his seniors (though Jason insists he let himself get thrown in). Their early interactions were, well, minimal. During Katherine’s first rotation, Jason happened to be one of her seniors — something he doesn’t remember at all. Katherine remembers only speaking to him once: asking if he needed help with his 5 admissions, to which he replied a firm “No.” They eventually became good friends throughout residency, but it wasn’t until Jason was in Michigan for his pain fellowship that they started keeping in closer touch. What started as occasional check-ins soon turned into regular conversations, shared jokes, and a growing connection that neither of them quite expected. Somewhere between the daily texts and late-night calls, Jason finally asked Katherine out. Their first date was a full-day adventure — starting with a visit to the Vanderbilt Museum, then axe throwing, where Jason turned out to be a pro and Katherine… let’s just say, not so much. They ended the date with dinner during which the fire alarm went off. Despite that (or maybe because of it), the rest was history. When Jason finished fellowship and returned from Michigan, Katherine left for New Hampshire to begin hers. They made long-distance work — Katherine visited Jason once in Michigan, while Jason made the trip to New Hampshire nearly every other weekend (Katherine insists this was totally fair). And whenever Katherine was on call, Jason was as well, serving as a curbside HIPAA-compliant consultant. During those years, some of their fondest memories came from traveling (their 5 week trip to Singapore, Australia, China come to mind) but more of their time was actually spent thinking about and planning future travels — while collecting memories, inside jokes, and a growing number of food photos along the way. On one such trip, Jason managed to completely surprise Katherine with a proposal with the help of their good friends, Hooney and Amy (Park) — while cruising on the Carnival Sunrise (yes, the same ship from Netflix’s Trainwreck: The Poop Cruise). Romantic, unexpected, and perfectly them. And now, here they are — ready for their next big adventure together. 💩
