The Proposal

"Mom, will you marry dad?"

If trying to get buy an engagement ring and hide it from your significant other wasn't hard enough, planning a proposal wasn't going be a walk in the park. Or was it? How does one even plan the perfect proposal? How do you even muster up the courage to ditch the nerves and ask the love of your life to marry you? A proposal that is spontaneous, romantic, unique and meaningful. We'll I'll tell you how. You ask her, by simply not asking her. I know that sounds counterintuitive right now but let me explain. Drogo joined our little family back in June of 2021. He was this small energetic rescue. A true one-of-a-kind pup. To this day we still don't fully know his breed. But we do know one thing is for sure, he changed both of our lives and for the better. We created this little family that is worth more than anything this world can offer. And seeing both of them bond over the years, has not only spotlighted their special "mother-son" pup bond to me, but it also proved that Drogo needed to be part of one of the most important moments of our lives. After purchasing the perfect ring, which was no easy task to hide from Kathy, I had a custom dog tag made. A heart shaped tagged with the words "Mom, will you marry dad?" transcribed on it. A subtle prop, that when swapped with his current tag, could hide in plain sight. If you know anything about Kathy, you know she loves the outdoors. Her perfect weekends always include parks, boardwalks and nature. If you know anything about me, it's that while I love the countryside, I also love the concrete jungle of Manhattan. I felt it was only fitting to propose to her in a park in the heart of the city where we both fell in love. The only question that remained was the "When?". Saturday, June 24, 2023 would come to be that day. A day that even I didn't know would be the day I would be proposing. I brought us to Brooklyn Bridge Park with both of our families for a stroll along the piers. I carried the ring and tag with me just in case. As luck would have it, I managed to find a secluded pier overlooking the Manhattan skyline. With the families gathered, the tags switched, and the perfect spontaneous scene set, all that was left was for her to notice the tag. In what I could only describe as the most nerve-racking seconds of my life, I got down on one knee and let our furry friend do the rest. I thank God for all that he has done for us to get us to this point. So please join us on December 14, as we make the biggest decision of our life. We can't wait to see you there! -Danny P.S. Whoever said, "diamonds are a girl's best friend," clearly never owned a pup.
