Dear Family & Friends, We are very excited to finally celebrate our wedding with our loved ones in Miami, Florida! There is nothing we'd enjoy more than a weekend celebrating with each and every one of you. It would mean the world to us if you could join. Love, Katherine & Clay
Katherine and I met in a fairly uneventful way - on the first day of her legal writing class, on her second semester (and my fourth) of law school. I was the teacher's assistant for the class. Of course, as the professor was taking roll call to start the class, I made a mental note to myself that I had to get to know the "cute Indian girl" in the third row. Although she actually asked me to get coffee first (yes, yes, she insists that wasn't a date, it was to "pick my brain" about succeeding in law school - oh, and she informed me, without me asking, that she's Cuban even though she looks Indian!), we continued to bump into each other in and out of class throughout the semester. By the end of the semester, I knew I wanted to ask her out, and was waiting eagerly for the class to end (yes, I waited until the class was over! Ok, yes, precisely 30 minutes after her semester was over, but I still waited!). She said yes, we got dinner the next week, and the rest is history. - Clay Hi, yes, Katherine here. I will studiously ignore my fiancé's comments on my asking him to coffee first and will add the actual moment that prompted Clay to ask me out--I went to Cafe Demetrio one day to study instead of my usual spots at UM. By this time, I had known Clay for a bit and may or may not have been hard core crushing. I remember thinking that the only downside to going to the cafe to study was that I would not bump into Clay. But I had wanted to visit this cafe for a while, so I threw on a tad bit of make up (because Coral Gables was bougie and I decided I needed to look somewhat presentable). I walked in, ordered my coffee and all of a sudden hear a tentative, "...Katherine?" Lo and behold the hero of the story. He was there to have breakfast with his best friend, who I give all the credit to actually encouraging Clay to ask me out (and who makes a cameo in this story). A flustered "hi" by the both of us, a chat at a table, and one cameo appearance by Jim later, here we are.
Long story short, my sister faked taking graduation pictures at Fair Child Tropical Gardens to lure me into a pretty dress and taking pictures without my thinking anything was weird! She pretended to go to the bathroom a few minutes in, and our photographer asked if she could use me as the guinea pig to test the lighting. As she took "test" pictures, I heard someone coming behind me, and I wondered who on earth could be so oblivious that a picture was being taken. I turn around and of course, there he was down on one knee. It was wonderful. Then he surprised me with a family and friend gathering immediately after at one of my favorite Indian restaurants. It was so full of joy and I loved it. I will say he did a pretty good job. ;)
