In June of 2021, Bethel High School hired a new history teacher from the quiet corner of Connecticut. When Austin arrived to meet some of his new colleagues, he happened to stop outside of Katie's office to ask for directions to the history wing. Katie looked up from her desk, and saw this tall, blue-eyed hunk talking to another teacher. She decided to act cool and pretend to be working hard on something. He did not look at her and she immediately knew--he would clearly fall in love with her. Fast forward to the next school year, and Austin continued to ignore Katie. Clearly, something was wrong with him. In February of 2022, a student asked Ms. Burke to make a staff dodgeball team to compete against the students. Considering her athletic limitations, she knew she had to stack the team. Looking around the school, she tried to find the most athletic of teachers in order to crush the opposing student team. As long as she had the five "Ds of dodgeball:" dodge, duck, dive, dip, dodge (and be handsome), she knew they couldn't lose. She called Mr. Hall in his classroom to ask if he would join her team. He accepted! The day of the game, Ms. Burke's Balls of Fury went all the way to the final round, losing in a sudden death match. The team's success was in no small part due to the magic and synergy of the players... and within a few weeks, Mr. Hall and Ms. Burke were on their first date at Vyne in Middlebury. The rest, as they say, is history.
