How We Met

Abelardo (Lalo) grew up in Saltillo, Coahuila, MX. He moved to TX to attend Texas A&M (Gig’em Aggies!). After graduation Abe started working for a steel company for a few years. He decided it was time for a change and ended up taking a job at an aluminum company in San Antonio in 2018. Little did he know what destiny had in store for him. Katherine grew up in Weirton, WV, an old steel town. After graduating from WVU (Let’s go… Mountaineers!), she started working for aluminum company. Little did she know what she was in for. Katherine was transferred to the San Antonio facility in 2019, the same facility where Abe was working. Abe and Katherine were first introduced at a meeting ...She thought who is that?!. He is so serious and cute. There was a group of guys from work that Abe would hang out with after hours. Katherine being around the same age was invited to hang out and the two got to know each other better. They actually had their first date when their friends bailed on an evening bike ride, but at the time they were just friends. Around Fiesta time in San Antonio was the when the two went on their first official date. He took her for barbecue joint up the road. It became easy to hang out as our apartments were only 1 block away, so planning for cool events became quite easy. They kept their relationship a secret from everyone at work. Even from their work friends that they would hang out with. Eventually their love grew and couldn’t keep it a secret. They told their friends from work and then a few months later some other colleagues as well. From there on out, their relationship grew organically as they both introduced their families to each other and as you know, the rest is history!

How He Proposed

The proposal story starts with a trip to Spain as Abe was chosen to be Julia’s (Sister’s Baby) godfather. Julia’s baptism was scheduled in Zaragoza Spain around Christmas time so Abe’s family and Katherine all booked travel arrangements for that. While Abe knew Katherine was THE ONE for a while, he thought Spain would be a good location to get on one knee and ask the big question. After some extensive research regarding ring specifications (As an engineer would), Abe ordered the ring, and had it delivered to Diana and Marcos’s house. After asking Katherine’s family for her hand along with letting Abe’s family know, the planning for the proposal started. Abe selected Plaza España in Sevilla. Once they arrived to Madrid, they both took a train to Sevilla to spend a few days on their own. They proceeded to do the tourist attractions while Abe secured a photographer to capture the moment. A specific date and time was agreed upon so Abe had to plan the day logistics accordingly. The day was rainy and gloomy, so Abe was very nervous as he wanted the photographer to capture the moment the best way possible. Once they arrived, turned out the photographer was late so Abe had to kill time by taking silly pictures. Once he finally arrived, we proceeded to take a selfie in a specific location to signal the photographer that Abe was ready. The photographer was close to them and then offered to take the picture with their phone. After the picture, he then offered to take another picture with his professional camera and send it to them via email. He then took a picture with the perfect background. Shortly after that, Abe kneeled and asked Katherine to marry her! Of course she said yes!
