Just like a normal wedding, we had our ceremony first and then a short break of 23 months before the reception. Join us (in person) for drinks, food, music, and dancing!
Hello, everyone! Welcome back to our wedding website. Many of you know most of this story already, but we wanted to preserve a bit of the long and winding road the planning of this celebration has taken. We were engaged in the spring of 2019, and by the fall we had our date, venue, photographer, rehearsal dinner, DJ, and brunch spot all booked! We were quite pleased with ourselves, thank you very much, for getting all the hard work out of the way, and we could sit back, relax, and knock off the rest of our checklist at a leisurely pace. Dress? Done. Tuxedo? Done. Wedding bands? Done. Makeup and stylists? Done. Honeymoon? Booked. Weddings are easy!! And then...2020. In March, we postponed from our original date of June 6 to August 8. In May, we were discussing ways to downsize and keep the August 8 date in Pittsburgh. Or, maybe, we could make it a road trip wedding. Then…do we feel comfortable inviting anyone at all, even a small group? Well, what are the risks? Will it somehow feel "not right" if some of our family is there but not others? Eventually, the number of questions adding up became one (thousand) too many to answer. Our wedding had become something we were dreading, instead of looking forward to with joy. We took a step back and asked ourselves, "What are the important things we are trying to preserve?" The list we came up with was a list of one: what is important is that we love each other. The only thing we really want is for our wedding to be a celebration of that love. Thus, we have decided to throw our own wedding from the comfort of our backyard, broadcast to our friends and family via Zoom! One day in the future, we promise to bring everyone together for free drinks and to celebrate in person, but, in the meantime, we have planned what we know will be a memorable ceremony, and we can’t wait for everyone to join us (virtually) on August 8. The rest of the website has all the details! -With Love, Mike & Katherine
Katherine and Mike first met for a drink at Sonny’s Tavern in the Bloomfield district of Pittsburgh in February 2016, with a matchmaking assist from the Bumble app. An early winter’s evening soon turned into a long night, and while Mike carried their team in darts against all comers, Katherine was falling for his dry sense of humor, strong ethics, and cute backside. Many memories were made over the next year, but their relationship came to a crossroads in January 2017 when Katherine’s career as an art curator meant a new job for her in Dallas, TX. Mike wasn’t about to lose Katherine’s passion, intelligence, and infectious laugh, so that June he packed up a van and drove cross-country to reunite in a one-bedroom apartment in downtown Dallas. Two-and-a-half years later, Katherine is the head of the contemporary art department at the Dallas Museum of Art, and Mike is excelling as a high school chemistry teacher at a magnet high school in the Dallas ISD public school district. They’ve left the apartment behind for a beautiful ranch home in Oak Cliff along with their super-well-behaved-never-ever-naughty dog Teddy, and can’t wait to celebrate their joy and love with friends and family.
