While attending the University of Maryland, Xhulio was assigned randomly as the roommate of Brian, Katelyn's friend from her neighborhood growing up and the officiant of their wedding. They initially met at one of Brian's friendly football games, but they didn't get to talk much at the time. Later that year, Katelyn and her maid of honor, Anne, went to visit Brian at his apartment. This was when Xhulio and Katelyn really got to talk for the first time. Although Xhulio was immediately struck with Katelyn, she wasn't so sure. While the two disagree on the number of times Xhulio asked Katelyn out before she accepted, they eventually went on their first date in the Fall of 2016 after getting to know each other better over the summer break from school.
