In 2022, Katelyn and Will met in a way neither of them expected while serving on a mission trip to Miami, Florida through Liberty University. After spending nine days serving together (and riding around Miami in a church van), they quickly became very close and discovered they had a lot in common, including birthdays just four days apart. They dated for a while after the trip, but it turned out to be one of those "right person, wrong time" stories. Two years later, Will asked Katelyn on a "second first date" in January 2024, and thankfully she said yes. He even chose the unforgettable Big Lick Tropical Grill in Lynchburg, claiming it was the comedic relief needed to win her back. Somehow, it worked. Timing really is everything. They picked up right where they left off and spent as much time together as they could while they were both in Lynchburg. The following summer and school year were spent mostly on the road as they made more trips between Charlottesville, Lynchburg, and Pennsylvania than they can count while Katelyn finished graduate school at Liberty. After graduating, Katelyn moved to Charlottesville in June 2025 so they could be in the same city again. On January 24, 2026, Will proposed on the Maupin family farm in Crozet, Virginia, a place that has become incredibly special to them and where they look forward to beginning their life together. He even managed to pull off both the surprise proposal and a celebration with family and friends, all just ahead of a major snowstorm. They are incredibly thankful for the Lord's faithfulness in directing their paths and bringing them together, and they can't wait to celebrate with all of you.
