Our story began when Tim asked me to go on a hike with him to Tanyard Creek in Northwest Arkansas. I remember him picking me up with flowers and opening my door—such a simple thing, but it really stuck with me! We spent the next few hours walking the trails, talking, laughing, and slowly getting to know each other. Afterward, we grabbed dinner at Chick-fil-A (obvious first date dinner spot) and took our time to sit, talk, and enjoy being together. Even now, we can’t quite agree on whether that was our “official” first date. A week earlier, he had asked for my “help” picking out a pickleball paddle at Academy, but as we walked out, he surprised me with ice cream and a stroll around the park that felt like the beginning of something special. So I guess you could say we had two first dates!
A few months after Tim and I started dating, he graduated with his Master’s degree from the U of A and the Lord called him back to his hometown in Kansas City. Although this was not what we had planned for our own lives, we wouldn’t trade this experience for the world. Dating long distance has pushed us to grow in more ways than we ever thought possible. People say distance makes the heart grow fonder, and we really do believe that to be true. There have been highs and lows of long distance dating + engagement, but the Lord has carried us every step of the way since day one and we trust that He will continue to do so in this next season. We have gotten to explore so many fun places being in two different cities and we really have made the most out of it!
Well, this is a fun story because I (Katelyn) had absolutely no idea it was happening the day that it did. I thought I would be able to read Tim well enough to pick up on when he was going to propose, but to my surprise I was entirely wrong. Tim and my family completely surprised me with the most beautiful engagement in my favorite chapel at the church I grew up in. It was such a sweet memory & we were so grateful that we had so many friends and family there to celebrate with us!
We will be moving to Kansas City area after we get married! Tim will continue working as a structural engineer near the Plaza and I will be a licensed counselor in the area. We are already making plans to join a church community in Johnson County and are excited to see what the Lord does in and through us in this next chapter of our lives together!
