Our First Date

August 12, 2015

We met and became friends our first year at Merrimack College when we were just 17. The summer before our sophomore year, we had been snapchatting almost everyday and I asked Stephen to go to the movies (yes, I asked him out). He said yes and we saw "The Gift". It was a terrible horror movie, but that didn't matter because we talked in the parking lot for over an hour after the movie ended. When I got home that night, I told my sister that "I just went on my last first date, because I am going to marry that boy". Safe to say, I kept that movie ticket and still have it to this day. Stephen showed me a few years after our first date that he had also saved his movie ticket.

The Proposal

5.30.22

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the tranquil beach. The gentle lapping of waves against the shore created a soothing melody, as the soft sands welcomed the footprints of lovers strolling along the water's edge. Among them were Stephen and Katelyn, two souls deeply in love, about to embark on a life-changing moment. Stephen had been planning this proposal for months, meticulously considering every detail to make it perfect. As they walked hand in hand, he couldn't help but steal glances at the radiant smile on Katelyn's face, her eyes reflecting the ever-changing colors of the evening sky. They walked to a secluded spot, away from the busier parts of the beach. Stephen’s sister Angela had followed them to the spot to take a few pictures of them at sunset. After a few pictures Stephen went over to Angela to hand her his phone. Katelyn's heart skipped a beat as she noticed Angela handed him a small box. As he opened it, the diamond ring inside sparkled in the dimming light. Stephen looked into her eyes, his voice filled with love and emotion. "Katelyn," he began, "will you marry me?" Katelyn's heart raced as she felt the weight of the moment. Her gaze locked onto Stephen's, and she nodded, tears of happiness glistening in her eyes. Tears streamed down Katelyn's cheeks as she gazed at the man she loved with all her heart. She nodded again, unable to find her voice. Stephen's face lit up with the brightest smile she had ever seen. He took her hand, slid the ring onto her finger. The world around them seemed to disappear, leaving only the two of them and the eternal promise they had just made to each other (and the two people unknowingly in the background that Angela later photoshopped out). As we walked back to the house where we were staying on Moody Beach, Katelyn noticed both families had gathered ready to celebrate with them.
