FAQs

Question

What should I bring?

Answer

A positive attitude and a sense of adventure A camera A raincoat Boots (for mud) Warm layers Bug spray Sunglasses Bear spray if hiking- we have extra to share; otherwise purchase when you arrive in Anchorage Plan to dress in layers, temperatures fluctuate.

Question

Will we need a vehicle?

Answer

We strongly suggest renting a vehicle if you're coming from out-of-state or plan to adventure on your own. We know rentals aren't cheap and we're sorry. Unfortunately, we don't have much control over that. But there aren't many other ways to get around, unless you're a pilot. Lyft and Uber is an option in Anchorage, but highly inconsistent in other communities. You do not need 4WD or high clearance for the drive to Soldotna or to access the wedding venue. Consider sharing with other guests. Contact us for help getting paired up.

Question

Will I need to dress up?

Answer

For the wedding, we highly encourage you to dress in your best "Alaska formal" wear. This means dresses with rainboots, windbreaker jackets with dress pants, your favorite fur.... formal but functional for whatever Alaska might throw at us. Our venue has indoor and outdoor space. We encourage you to bring a raincoat.

Question

Should I plan for rain?

Answer

Yes! The weather can change suddenly in either direction. Keep your jacket nearby!

Question

Will it ever get dark?

Answer

Yes! We are past the summer solstice in September and lose minutes of light every day. On our wedding day, the sun will rise at 8:05am and set at 7:43pm.

Question

Can we come early or stay longer?

Answer

Yes! There's so much to see and do in Alaska at this time of year, and we highly encourage adding some time to explore during your trip! Head over to our "Things to Do" page to see our recommendations for extending your trip.

Question

How bear aware do I need to be?

Answer

The odds of you running into a bear in town or in a neighborhood are very low, but not totally out of the question. If you plan to hike, please practice good bear awareness. Hike in groups, make lots of noise, and carry bear spray. If you make noise and carry bear spray, you do not need to carry a firearm. Usually, the wildlife want nothing to do with you. Moose are more of a concern than bears. DO NOT try and get close, especially if they have calves. Moose can be very mean and are a lot bigger than you'd think.
