How We Met

By many hands, we were introduced at an annual Ray's Bar Party at Les and Jamis (Katelyn's aunt and uncle) house. We have this standing get together each winter and usually it is just family but in February of 2017 Jami had another idea in mind, and I'm sure glad she did--she played match maker to secretly invite Kirk with the intention of setting us up. Neither of us had any idea beforehand, but it was pretty quick after Kirk showed up that we caught onto what they were trying to do—pretty soon Jami wasn't the only one in on it. Kirk and I tried to play it cool and not let anyone know that we might possibly be interested in each other. Fast forward a few hours, and it was time to go do chores. I had the great idea that someone needed to supervise, and I mean who else better for the job than someone who literally knows nothing about life on the farm—so I grabbed some boots and hopped in the tractor with Kirk where we spent the whole time laughing and getting to know each other. A few weeks later we went on our first date and we had to be asked to leave because we had stayed so long the restaurant was closing, and as they say, the rest is history.

The Proposal

February 21, 2021 we cashed in my Christmas present for a date night at the wine globes at Next Chapter Winery. We were enjoying some wood-fired pizza and wine when about halfway through our two hour reservation a photographer came in and asked if he could take our picture for the winery. Now, I might have thought this was weird but minutes earlier I had seen him taking pictures of everyone else so I didn't think anything of it. In fact, I was all for it. I thought "oh how fun! we're going to be on the winery's website" Joke's on me! Next thing I know, Kirk was down on one knee and I was crying. Like a lot of crying. The easiest yes I've ever said. After a few minutes, when I (kind of) pulled myself together, he said "well do you want to try this thing on or what" in reference to the ring--I hadn't even looked at it yet! As it turns out Kirk had hired the photographer and he was just pretending to take pictures of everyone else. All in all, the most perfect night!
