How We Met - Bluffton, SC

September 2016

Jens and Katelyn each relocated to Bluffton, South Carolina to work at the Montage Palmetto Bluff Resort. Jens moved from San Diego, California to be the Sommelier for their signature restaurant, Jessamine. Katelyn, moved there just one month prior from Lafayette, Indiana to be the Jessamine Supervisor. A week after Jens started, Katelyn was expecting a busy breakfast shift in the restaurant so she bamboozled the hot new sommelier (If you ask Jens) by asking for his help with the shift in front of their boss. Jens was torn between needing to sign his apartment lease and impressing his new coworker. Katelyn coaxed him into working for a couple of hours by offering to buy him a coffee. Jens agreed but quickly responded that he drinks beer, not coffee. A day or two later, Katelyn stuck to her word and took him out for a beer (and a Jameson-Pickle Back) at Kelly's, a small dive bar nearby, and the rest is history!

The Proposal - Charleston, SC

June 29th 2018

When Katelyn and I began dating in the fall of 2016, one of our first dates was a day trip to Charleston, SC. In a lot of ways, this is where our relationship really began. It was our first little adventure together, as well as our first photo as a couple. When it came time to pop the question, there were a couple of things that were extremely apparent to me; that I definitely wanted to ask her to spend the rest of her life with me and that I was hoping that her brother, mom and dad would be a part of it as they mean so much to her. My plan was to ask her early in the summer and as fate would have it, her parents were planning a trip to visit us in South Carolina. Once I found this out, I called Katelyn's father, Steven, and asked for his blessing to marry his daughter. Luckily for me, he was on board and I informed both of her parents of my plans to ask Katelyn to marry me in a place that was very special to us. On June 29th 2018, Katelyn and I were planning on showing her family around Charleston. We spent most of the afternoon walking around and taking tours of the city. We were browsing the City Market when it was close to that time, and I had to come up with an excuse to break away from the group since the box was too bulky to hide in my pocket all morning. The best I could come up with was that I was hot and wanted a beer... Katelyn wasn't impressed with this excuse which she made apparent through text messages. Luckily everyone else was in on the rouse and they encouraged me to go rehydrate. Once I returned from my car with the ring we met up for a drink and walked to the Waterfront Park (the site of our first picture as a couple) and I got down on one knee and I asked Katelyn to spend the rest of her life with me. #shedidntsayno
