Thank you for participating in such an important part of our Catholic faith! The general layout of the ceremony is as follows: the Liturgy of the Word (readings from Scripture), the wedding vows, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. As Catholics, we believe that the Eucharist is truly the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. With that being said, if you are not Catholic or in a state to receive, as others are going up to receive, you can either stay in your pew or come forward for a blessing. If you choose to come forward for a blessing, cross your arms over your chest to let the priest know. Don't know if you are in a state of grace to receive? Only baptized Catholics who have received their first communion, are practicing the faith, and are not aware of having committed mortal (serious) sins since their last confession may receive the Eucharist.
