At 5,200 acres, Portland's Forest Park is one of the largest urban forests in the United States. With more than 80 miles of trails, fire lanes and forest roads, Forest Park stretches for more than seven miles along the eastern slope of the Tualatin Mountains, overlooking Northwest Portland and the convergence of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. Our favorite city park and where we love to run every weekend! Some of our favorite trails: Lower Macleay trail - access from NW Portland. Walk to the witches castle (stone house) or continue upward to upper Macleay and Pittock Mansion to get views of the city and of Mt.Hood on clear days. For a shorter hike, Pittock Mansion can also be accessed from upper Maclay parking lot or driving up all the way Wildwood access on 53rd and Cornell or Germantown road. Require a car to get out of town. Or any other trail in Forest Park!
When His Excellency Nobuo Matsunaga, the former Ambassador of Japan to the United States, visited Portland Japanese Garden, he proclaimed it to be “the most beautiful and authentic Japanese garden in the world outside of Japan.”
