For those of you who have heard this story for the millionth time feel free to skip it for the millionth and first, if not, then boy you are in for a real treat. Katelyn was working as a Kindergarten teacher at Saint Mary School and was headed to a professional development day for Catholic schools up in Tacoma at St. Charles Borromeo. St. Mary, being of a smaller staff size decided to "divide and conquer" the classes to ensure each class was attended to bring back the knowledge to our next staff meeting. Strolling into "cooperative learning groups", Katelyn soon realized she was the only teacher who wasn't with a fellow staff member. She found an empty table and began to daydream about what she could be doing in her classroom. In walks a lovely lady who asked to sit down. She was from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic school in Federal Way and instantly a connection was made. The two discussed curriculum, kindergartners, and Mr. Sketch Markers (they really do smell good!). Afterwards they parted ways to finish out their day. That next week Katelyn received an email from this kind stranger. She is reaching out to ask further questions about the curriculum they discussed and expand on their previous conversation. After exchanging a couple emails, Kristy decides to take the plunge. Katelyn received a sweet email, highlighting Kristy's son Connor and an explanation of how the two of them would really hit it off! That's a bold move cotton, let's see if it pays off. After some time, Katelyn and Connor began communicating and went on their first date and haven't looked back since... well, maybe a few times to laugh! It is without a doubt that God had a plan for the two of us to meet. We are thankful everyday Kristy took a chance and reached out to a young lady she had just met. Still our favorite line of the email -- "Are you finding any of this creepy yet? Because I am!"
At the beginning of our relationship we took a day trip down to Seaside. For both of us, Seaside held a special place in our hearts as children, so we had fun reminiscing about old memories and exploring together. This date was memorable to both of us and we talked about returning to Seaside again someday. On the return trip, Connor had a surprise up his sleeve! After retracing our steps through town, we ended up on the beach. All of a sudden, Connor got down on one knee and proposed and of course Katelyn said "Yes!". A crowd had formed on the promenade and they began to cheer. In all of the shock, Katelyn had missed the fact that there was a photographer taking their photo. Connor's friend Justin had made the trip down to capture the special moment.
