How We Met

"Hey, have we met?"

Katie's Perspective: In July of 2020 my Dad came to lunch after church one day and said "I have a boy for you to meet at church!" Drew had just moved to Utah and was stationed at Hill Air Force Base. After dropping his parents and LB at the airport, he decided that he needed to find a church and settled on Alpine Church in Layton. This is when he met my Dad! Getting a recommendation from your dad about a guy he met at church wasn't exactly the most intriguing starting point and I pretty much blew it off... until next Sunday when I saw him at church for the first time! What happened next is extremely anti-climactic. I was too scared to go up and talk to him and for 4 months; hoping that I'd get the chance to "accidentally" start talking to him. Then one day I got bold and found him on Facebook. I finally built up the courage and sent him a friend request. To which, all I got back was "Hey, have we met?" From there, we planned to go on a lunch date after church on Sunday, but got too excited and planned a date for Friday night. The rest is history and we haven't slowed down since that Friday afternoon when he picked me up after work to go play pickle ball! -Katie Drew's Perspective: Cute girl sent a friend request. Accepted friend request. Messaged cute girl. Tricked cute girl into dating me. Now am getting married to cute girl. #Winning -Drew

The Proposal

July 3rd 2021

Katie said her only request was to get engaged on the beach... seems easy from Utah right? Well it worked out that I was able to get home to Florida for our family's 4th of July trip to New Smyrna Beach. I got home from a work trip, went and picked up the ring, then grabbed Katie to head down to the airport. For a couple weeks I tried to plan something extravagant, but no matter what it just didn't feel right to have all the fanfare. So on July 3rd we walked down to the beach for "family pictures" and Katie and I walked away from the crowd and I got down on one knee and asked my best friend to marry me. (It took a solid minute or so to realize she actually hadn't said yes... she came around) It was simple and I think represents our relationship far better than any fanfare would have! We are so excited for this next stage in our lives and can't wait to celebrate with all of you! See you in SLC!!! -Drew
