Our First Date

August 12, 2017

It has always been August and everything after for us. Alan & Kate met online and spoke for 48 hours nearly nonstop messaging and talking on the phone. During their conversations Alan asked Kate out for breakfast on a Saturday morning after he finished scouting for bears. Being impatient and trying to be adventurous Kate agreed to go with Alan scouting and only told her parents she had a date hiking near Iola with a guy she met online and that she would be back around noon. Kate and Alan spent the next few hours scouting for bears, walking some trails, and in deep conversation about their families, hobbies, dreams, and had lost all track of time. Kate and Alan were sitting on a bench in Iola, Wisconsin when Kate finally checked her phone to the tune of 17 missed calls and messages from her parents, and best friend. They had thought Kate was abducted or worse. Fortunately they hadn't reached the point of calling the police or starting a search party. Kate and Alan spent the rest of the day together meeting Alan's dad, Larry, where he jokingly asked Kate what size ring she wore for Alan's future reference. Since then, Kate and Alan have spent as much time together as possible and grown together while creating the strongest love and bond with one another. Even after having their wedding on October 31, 2020, they both agreed that the day they met was still the best day ever! <3

Our Wedding Day

October 31, 2020

Due to some health concerns within Alan's family, the couple decided to move their originally planned event up to ensure everyone could attend their special day. Alan and Katelyn were married at Golden Dog Orchard in Helenville, WI on October 31, 2020 (yes, Halloween; their favorite holiday) in the presence of their immediate families and their closest friends. The couple limited the event to 25 people in total. Alan and Kate and their families spent two days leading up to the wedding setting up outdoor tents and lighting for the special day and had rehearsed everything the night prior and were ready to be husband and wife. Little did they know, all these efforts were entirely destroyed by the morning of the wedding due to the extreme gusts of wind. October 31, 2020 was quite possibly the windiest day of the already whirlwind of a year. Fortunately for their guests, Alan and the men were able to clear out an entire barn and decorate and set up everything for guests to stay out of the inclement weather. The ceremony (though later than originally planned for in the day) was brief and held outside where the groom ushered his step-mother, Jean, and the bride's mother, Karin, down the aisle. He was followed by the Best Man and Maid of Honor, as well as the Best Dog and Matron of Honor, and finally the bride; who was ushered by her father, David, and the groom's father, Larry. The couple shared an original sermon, but the classic vow to commitment for life; all in the presence of family. This was followed by their first kiss as husband and wife. The newlyweds and their guests spent the remainder of the evening catching up and enjoying dinner, music, and drinks in an intimate setting. Although it was far from a perfect day, the couple will always have a few stories from their wedding day that are entirely unique, and unforgettable. Mostly, the couple was glad to share the day, no matter how chaotic with those they love and couldn't imagine that day without.
