Katie’s side: Tyler and I grew up going to the same church and CCD class our whole childhood. When we hit about 7th grade, Tyler became my first crush. In class, I would sit hoping Tyler would sit next to me or even say a word to me but, Tyler sat quietly never saying a word or even look in my direction. My crush was so big I called dibs on him to all of my friends. I would tell them, "I know he loves me but he just didn't know it yet." As we got older and time went on I thought my chances with Tyler were hopeless since, I would never make the first move. Luckily, we had to go feed the homeless for our confirmation class and I was able to get to know him a lot better. During our trip he finally talked to me and made me laugh. After that my crush for him grew even more. Of course, nothing came of it. The next summer we both went to the Waterford Fair where we had mutual friends. That whole weekend we hung out with a big group of our friends and we had a blast. After the fair I heard nothing from him. School started and homecoming came around. All of a sudden, out of the blue I get a random text and it was from Tyler and for about a week we texted. Then, Tyler asked me to his homecoming about a month early and I of course said, "yes!" About a couple weeks later I ask him to mine and we went to both homecomings. Ever since then, we have talked every single day for the past 9 years. Little 7th grade Katie knew all along that Tyler loved her but he didn't know it yet. Tyler’s side: As Katie mentioned, we grew up knowing each other from church and CCD. I also had feelings for Katie beginning around the 7th grade but never really thought anything would happen between us as she showed little to no interest in me. I think that every guy In our CCD class had a crush on her though so I immediately thought I had no shot. I used to wonder if she even knew my name because we never talked to each other. Her side of the story makes it seem like her crush was obvious but I don’t think we ever made eye contact before the 8th grade. Moving to freshman year I still had a hard time believing she even knew my name, Until the trip to the soup kitchen later that year where we all had a great time and talked to each other and even exchanged phone numbers. After The soup kitchen we exchanged a few texts here and there but her one word responses let me know she wasn’t interested so we eventually stopped talking. Later that year I asked one of her friends the day before Valentine’s Day if she was single and she told me she was but it never went any further than a few more texts between each other. Going into sophomore year we started talking again and eventually arranged time to hangout during the Waterford fair. I as well told my friend that I called dibs on her. We got a lot closer that weekend but seemed as if it was slowing down as the school year began. Around homecoming time I kept checking social media to see if anyone has asked her and finally one night I just decided to ask her out of the blue. For some reason she said yes but it eventually lead us to where we are now.
