Our Story

May 31, 2022

Just about when we had both decided that finding love in Manhattan, Kansas wasn't going to be in either of our stories….we found each other. That fateful night came only three days after I had downloaded a dating app known as "Hinge". Josh had sent me a like almost immediately letting me know that he thought I was absolutely stunning. We began messaging and instantly clicked in terms of humor, sensitivity and what we wanted out of life. Keeping our expectations low, we decided to give it a shot and meet in person. On May 31st, Josh knocked on my apartment door. I remembered peeking through the peep hole just to verify he was real (I had some completely misguided low expectations based on the pictures he had posted on the app) and opened the door. The first thing I realized was that he is not extremely photogenic as I was taken aback at how attractive he was. This led me to immediately spin around in order to avoid eye contact and ask if he wanted a drink which I knew was more for me in that moment. We each had a Jack and Coke, then sat down to chat. We talked about where we grew up and how we landed in Manhattan among many other things. It’s safe to say that sparks were flying. If someone would have walked into the apartment in that moment they would have assumed we had been friends for years. That night was pivotal. We spent many of the next five days hanging out and getting to know each other almost like we were inseparable. By day two, all of my friends were aware of a guy named Josh who was kind, sweet and funny. I talked so much that I bet my friends were so tired of hearing about him honestly. Then, just a week after we had met, Josh invited me out with his friend group. Apparently this was a big deal for him to invite a girl out to meet his friends in which I had no idea, yet I was still excited beyond belief knowing he wouldn’t invite me if he thought I was weird or annoying (honest fears of mine). That night I put on my jeans, black shirt and white vans when Josh arrived to pick me up. We took our first picture together in the uber which is still our favorite photo to this day. I met all his friends and we had an absolute blast beating everyone in the games, most notably going undefeated in pong where I will admit Josh carried the team, but I made the final shot in each game. That night out in Aggieville was monumental for our relationship for many reasons. As we were leaving the bars, I asked Josh if we could walk back, which by the way no one ever says yes to, but he did without hesitation. We were about halfway home when it started to rain. One of the things we liked the most about each other was how competitive we were. As we were walking I noticed a basketball sitting in the middle of the court at a fraternity house. I excitedly asked Josh if he wanted to shoot hoops and before he could say anything I took off across the street and grabbed the ball. We played horse in the rain where Josh beat me. This would lead to a long, long battle of losing to Josh that would plague the future of our relationship, but that’s a story for another time. The rest of the walk back consisted of laughter and talking about how hungry we were. When we finally made it back, we both fell asleep almost immediately. The next day I woke up full heartedly in love with this man, still unsure how he did that to me, and asked him if he wanted to be my man. He said yes, we shared a long hug where I may or may not have teared up a bit and the rest is history. p.s.. Josh says that the moment he fell in love with me was when I took off to the basketball court in the rain.

For all the days along the way
