Spring 2015 brought us together in the most perfectly us way possible—through our shared passion for debate. We first locked eyes during recruit weekend at Wake Forest University, surrounded by debaters in Carswell Hall. Varun noticed Kate almost immediately: she was perched on a table, legs swinging playfully, wearing the warmest smile. When he worked up the courage to finally approach her, she greeted him with such genuine kindness that he knew instantly that weekend was going to be special. Here were two accomplished high school debaters—Kate from sunny San Diego, Varun from vibrant Austin—who had somehow never crossed paths until that moment. By weekend's end, Varun had made his decision: if he chose Wake Forest, he was going to ask this amazing girl out. As fate would have it, both of us enrolled that fall, and what began as a strong relationship as teammates blossomed into something deeper. Through countless late-night strategy sessions in Winston-Salem and quiet walks during team retreats in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains: teammates became study partners, study partners became best friends, and best friends became soulmates. A decade later, we're still bonded by our shared passions—music, politics, travel, and our love for animals (especially our spoiled black cat who's convinced she's the real star of this story). And yes, the debate skills have served us well, helping us navigate disagreements with grace and understanding. From Winston-Salem to Waco and back to Austin again, our journey has been enriched by incredible family, friends, and countless adventures together. After ten years of love, laughter, and the occasional "I disagree," we can't wait to celebrate our long-awaited "I do" with our friends and family who mean the world to us.
