With its exceptionally nice alluvial-flat redwood grove and its scenic setting, Hendy Woods is a real pleasure to visit. By far the best redwoods in Hendy Woods are in Big Hendy, an 80-acre redwood grove. Located on an alluvial flat created by a bend in the Navarro River, the grove is sheltered on one side by hills but is open to the wide Anderson Valley on the other.
This quaint little town combines big scenery with small-town charms. Amid the dramatic landscape nestles the downtown, with Victorian homes in Easter-egg colors and Main Street lined with a bookstore, museum, toy shop, chocolatier, B&Bs, and eateries. The wildflowers and scrub of Mendocino Headlands State Park blanket the edges of town, where gentle trails lead to secluded beaches and benches for pausing to take in the show of spouting whales and surf-riding sea lions.
Come experience the the wonder of nature at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, in all its seasons. This is a place to play, to contemplate, to learn, to relax, to touch, to smell, to feel, to enjoy, to be inspired, and to experience the simple wonder and beauty of life.
