How We Met

Baker Love - September, 2011

Kate and Nick met back in 2011 at Ohio State. Although they were both Ohio State Welcome Leaders, lived down the hall from one another, and were both office assistants in Baker Hall West, it wasn't exactly love at first sight. They first hung out at a party on north campus, where Nick nervously tried to flirt while talking too much about High School Musical. The remainder of fall quarter was spent with Nick flirting, asking Kate and her roommate Alex if they wanted to get breakfast or dinner (usually with a text message that just said "Commons?"), and Kate not noticing he was interested. But winter quarter brought along more cozy movie nights in the dorm, and eventually Nick asked if Kate would like to get dinner and attend one of the theatre shows with him (RIP Gooeyz). 9 years, 2 undergraduate degrees, 1 medical degree, 5 apartments, 1 move to New York, countless vacations, and 1 very rambunctious rescue dog later, they finally decided it was time to get married.

The Proposal

April 5, 2019

Even two city slickers need to get into nature every now and then. After a cold first winter in NYC, Nick and Kate decided to go west with a trip to Las Vegas, Zion National Park, and the Grand Canyon. Kate absolutely knew Nick was going to propose because he would not stop talking about it. After spending the first few days of their trip losing a lot of money in Vegas, the two headed to Zion to hike and explore. At the end of a beautiful first day, they stopped at a rock to catch their breath and watch the sunset. Nick nervously handed Kate a bag of chips, which seemed odd to her as she was pretty sure he was about to propose. He did, she had to set the chips down to put on the ring. It was perfect.

The Pandemic Story

September 26, 2020

After originally planning our wedding for September 26, 2020, we made the decision to postpone our big celebration to our new date as a Covid-19 precaution. But after nearly 9 years together, we didn't want to also postpone our marriage. We gathered together on our original wedding date with our immediate family and a few close friends to exchange vows in a mini-ceremony. We're so grateful to have spent the last year as husband and wife, and we can't wait to celebrate with you on September 11!
