The cheapest and easiest way to get to Block Island is by ferry. The Block Island Ferry leaves from Pt. Judith, Rhode Island and has parking right across the street ($10-$15/day). For the high-speed (30 mins), I recommend getting a ticket in advance. For the traditional (1 hr), you can get tickets at the ferry dock. Information and schedules can be found here: https://www.blockislandferry.com/. If you hate boats, you can also fly to Block Island. A small airport is located in Westerly, and flights go from dawn until dusk. It is a 12 minute flight and should be booked ahead of time. You can make reservations here: https://flywesterlyairport.com/. This is a much more expensive option than traveling by boat.
You or someone you know should bring a car. If you haven’t made ferry reservations for your car yet, do so ASAP! There are also taxi services on island if you need them.
YES. Most of the bars and some restaurants are cash only. Parking in Pt. Judith is also cash only. If you forget cash, there are ATMs around the island.
Since Block Island is a small New England island, the temperature in October can range from 30 to 80 degrees and the weather can range from sunny to Nor'Easter. We definitely advise bringing warm jackets for the nighttime and keeping an eye on the weather (and wind) as you get closer to the date!
We only ask that for the actual wedding, you come in cocktail or dressy casual attire. We don’t expect jackets and ties, but dresses, nice pants, and button downs are appreciated!
NO. The taxi companies got together and nixed those companies from the island. Cabs only!
On the ferry! Make sure you get yourself one on the way over!
So glad you asked. Block island has deer, rats, mice, seals, voles, birds, and cats. There are no squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, skunks, or raccoons on Block Island. There’s also an exotic animal zoo where you can see camels, kangaroos, a ze-donk, and fainting goats!
