Boulder is located 5,430 ft above sea level. The high altitude can cause mild altitude sickness, especially with increased exposure to the sun and dry heat of Colorado summertime. Here are some helpful tips, if you're traveling from a lower altitude: Drink lots of water and electrolytes; keep healthy snacks on hand; get enough sleep and limit exercise until you feel adjusted; protect yourself from the sun with layers and sunscreen. Alcohol also hits a lot harder when you’re trying to acclimatize, so the best thing you can do is take it easy your first night in town.
Whistle Stop Park is a 10-15 minute Uber ride away from accommodations in Boulder and Longmont. If you're planning to drive, there is public parking along both 2nd Avenue and Murray Street, within two blocks walking distance of Whistle Stop Park. Public parking areas are outlined in red in the map above.
