Kate and Joe are tying the knot after 10 incredible years together! Both hailing from the same hometown, their paths didn’t cross much until college—thanks to Joe being a bit older. But fate had a plan: when they walked into the Quinnipiac gym for orientation, they discovered they’d both signed up for the same session and were randomly placed in the same group. A few months later, they were moving into college and, by chance, were assigned rooms just one floor apart. Joe took full advantage, frequently coming upstairs to see what Kate was up to. After months of getting to know each other, Kate finally agreed to go on a date at the end of the first semester—and the rest, as they say, is history!
October 14th, 2023 was a gloomy, somber fall day. Rain clouds were circling the city, and Joe was circling the apartment anxiously. He had arranged a romantic garden proposal right down the street from their apartment in the West Village. Then following the proposal, Joe and Kate would set off for Little Italy to begin the celebrations with family. For some additional context, Katheryn had planned to go hiking with some of her friends on the day Joe planned to propose. Thankfully, the impending rain was a natural reason for Katheryn's friends to "reschedule" the hike. With Joe's plans progressing smoothly...the DeMarey and Christman families were in position for the soon-to-be newly engaged couples arrival, and Joe was prepared to get things underway. What Joe was totally unprepared for was for the first time in 3 years their apartment was without hot water. Reluctantly, Joe started heating up water on the stove and was running it to the shower one pot at a time. To further complicate things, Joe’s coworker (who graciously doubled as their photographer for the day), informed him that the selected proposal site was now locked behind a gate. So right as Joe and Kate were set to leave the apartment, it was time for Plan B. I wish I was making it up! Truly, a Murphy’s Law situation here. Unfazed by the pouring rain, lack of hot water, and a last minute proposal site change, Joe was determined to make this day beautiful and memorable no matter what. With a new location selected for the proposal, Joe stormed out of the bathroom where he had been hiding for 15 minutes researching an alternative location. Once the photographer was in position, Joe and Kate departed for their “lunch”. After a short stroll down the street, Joe led Katheryn into a lovely little garden within St. Luke’s church in the West Village. After a few short words, Joe was kneeling in a puddle, placing a ring on Kate’s finger. Once Katheryn said yes, Joe mentioned he had a reservation in Little Italy, but what he didn’t say is our families were waiting to surprise us. We walked into the restaurant and were welcomed by a round of applause not only from our families but from all the the other New Yorkers enjoying dinner. October 14th 2023 is a day that Katheryn and Joe will remember for the rest of their lives, and throughout all of the unexpected twists and turns, the day was a great success overall.
