On July 31, 2020 Kate and Jerrod were mindlessly meandering in the online dating pool. As we all know this was a time when Covid was full-fledged, with many people experiencing loneliness and boredom. Kate sat mindlessly swiping when she came across a profile of an incredibly attractive man; on a whim, she thought “Why not it’s just for fun” and swiped right. It should be noted that Jerrod should have not shown up as a potential match, as he was outside of Kate’s distance and under her age limit. As many of you know, Jerrod is much more intentional about his decisions and he had not only prayed over the app but had made a commitment that this could be a place for God to bring his spouse. Apparently, Kate’s pictures were all horribly ugly (which is completely wrong btw) but Jerrod had made a promise to God. He struck up a well-thought-out conversation and Kate realized she would actually have to put in work… which she didn’t do for a long time. In a last-ditch effort, Jerrod asked Kate what she was looking for which led to an essay and some decent conversation. Over the next month, they talked daily about life, their story, and their dreams. Jerrod then asked Kate to go on a beach date which she agreed to. This was their first meeting and first date. After this, their attraction and curiosity grew, and eventually, Jerrod invited Kate to Tahoe (Sept 5th) where he announced he thought he was falling in love with her and asked her to be his girlfriend. Kate panicked, cried, and said nothing…. They became a couple...
November 4th, 2022 began just like any other Friday…. gym time, sleep-filled eyes, and whining pets. Days before, Jerrod had gone to the jewelry store to buy a temporary engagement ring so that he could propose to his love. In addition, he expressed that he wanted to go to the potential venue to take some more engagement photos; and propose to her, but of course, she didn’t know that. And while there, get some photos of the venue to have images to reference when planning the wedding. After this, he said that they could go on out that night for their usual date night. Kate, not knowing what was really going on, agreed. Upon arriving at the venue, Jerrod did indeed take photos of the venue to avoid building any suspicion around his true motives for them being there. After getting several pictures of the venue, they set up to get the engagement photos taken. Once a couple of poses were photographed, it was time to put the plan into action. Setting up the tripod, he asked Kate to go stand in front of it so that he could center the photo. While she joked around in front of the camera, Jerrod switched the setting to video and pressed record. As Jerrod started walking over to her, she started saying things like “Oh, we should do a picture of you kissing my hand.” And all he could think about was how she unknowingly set things up perfectly for him. As she stuck her hand out for him to kiss, Jerrod pulled a ring box out of his jacket, saying “I think it would look better with one of these on your finger😏”. While getting down on one knee, Katherine thought it was all a joke until he opened up the box, showing the pear shaped ring, saying “Katherine Dawn Meek, will you marry me?”…..
