Back in 2016, Kate joined the Roller Derby of Central KY team in Lexington, KY. Jay had been on the Men's Roller Derby of Kentucky team since March 2016, but Kate and Jay's paths did not cross until early 2017. Kate was trying to get better at being on skates, so she began supplementing her own team's practices with going to the men's team practice. From there, they got to know each other more (even with the lapse in skating on Kate's part - broken ankles, y'all). Fun fact: Kate actually turned down Jay the first time he asked her out. He first asked her out in October of 2018 and she (politely) rejected him. Kate then ended up asking Jay out in March of 2019, and Jay thankfully said yes. They have been together since! Jay and Kate have been together through some tough self-exploration times: job changes and loss, the pandemic, moving in together. They have changed and grown together, supporting each other in all of their life goals and endeavors. A lot has happened in this time, and two smart, book-loving people grew as individuals and as a couple. Kate knew that she wanted to be with Jay for the rest of her life. So in March of 2021, while Jay and Kate were in Cave City at Mammoth Cave in KY, at Sunset Point, Kate got down on a knee and popped the question. Jay of course said yes! They are very excited for all of their friends and loved ones to come together and celebrate their union!
