Kate's POV: After years of travelling the world and learning how to make pastries, I ended up back in Iowa to study food science at Iowa State University. My heart, weary with fatigue after years of moving, was ready to be home in Iowa for a few years. Life in Ames was slow and easy and school was challenging, but the true journey began when I got plugged into a Salt Company connection group. There I found a true love for Jesus through a greater, deeper understanding of the Gospel. This community changed my life and led me to my future husband. The first time we talked was at a bar in Ames where he let me do most of the talking for an hour or two. He also took the worst selfie, which still makes me smile to this day. From there we started to get to know each other, and that fall he asked me out for coffee. Neither of us drink coffee, but we stayed and chatted for hours. We kept dating and running headlong into the bliss of a new relationship. The bliss screeched to a halt a few months later after finals when David graduated and moved back home to Minneapolis, and I stayed in Ames to finish my studies. The distance challenged us and the next fall I broke it off with him to focus on my schoolwork and let him find the peace he needed. I told him no contact until Christmas, but when he texted me on Thanksgiving, I was giddy. That time apart grew our faith, and we returned to the relationship with our sins made evident to each other. Instead of seeking the perfect person, we sought each other as truly flawed but forgiven individuals. Long distance continued as I took a job in Cincinnati, but God blessed me with a job in Minneapolis last March. Moving here was the best birthday gift, and this summer has been a blessing to be together. Now we're excited to celebrate with you all on our wedding day!
