Valley Forge National Historical Park is the site of a Revolutionary War encampment. Washington’s Headquarters, a stone house on the Schuylkill River, was occupied by George Washington from 1777 to 1778. Trails connect the key monuments and historic structures, including the early-20th-century National Memorial Arch and the Muhlenberg Brigade’s recreated log-cabin barracks.

Longwood Gardens is an American botanical garden. In 1906, industrialist Pierre du Pont (1870-1954) purchased a small farm near Kennett Square to save a collection of historic trees from being sold for lumber. Today, Longwood Gardens is one of the world’s great horticultural displays, encompassing 1,077 acres of dazzling gardens, woodlands, meadows, fountains, a 10,010-pipe Aeolian organ and 4.5-acre conservatory.
