Hello Friends and Happy New Year! Here's some really great news, WE GOT MARRIED! Provincetown Town Hall, Cape Cod, Massachusetts 2020 was a rollercoaster year, but while everything was happening, we were growing more in love. Here's our story.
We met and became friends years ago in Boston. After I moved to San Francisco, we kept in touch about shows going on in our different cities. Seth would visit SF and I would meet him out for a hang. On one of his visits, something had changed. We were different. We found ourselves on the same page, looking for the same things. So we made out in public in front of some drunk sailors at Vesuvio bar in the north end. And that was it. We dated long distance for a year. It was full of travel, hotels, story-telling over drinks, friends and family meetups, trading playlists, holding hands in the street, etc. It was a whirlwind amazing time. But soon we decided to cut the distance between us and I made the decision to move BACK to Boston. I moved in with Seth into a lovely 1 bedroom apt, with a sunny deck, in Cambridge. Of course it was just 2 weeks before COVID-19 shut down the city. Luckily, Seth was in the process of fixing up an 'old-man-special', a house in Orleans, on the outer cape - so we temporarily moved there for more space while we waited for the world to turn back on. We quickly realized this was maybe-probably-definitely a long term situation and settled into the house so we could watch the world burn in peace. But seriously though, this was a time to count our blessings and be thankful for everything we have. And love continued to bloom: we baked banana bread, made pizza dough, chugged large amounts of wine, took walks on the beach to look at 400 sunsets and gazed suspiciously at strangers. We got into some next level social distancing, driving miles out on the beach in our little dune jeep. And on our adventures over the summer, and with the help of Seth's dad's old boat, we found a magical oasis. A little piece of sand at the edge of the earth. Just us and the seals.
When you know you know! One trip the year prior in San Francisco Kat showed me her favorite jewelry shop and one ring really stood out and I took mental note... In lockdown I found the shop online and quietly shipped it to our house in Cape Cod. After calling Kat's dad for permission (granted!) we had a boat ride/beach day out on The Oasis. It's the very tip of the Nauset inlet where the water is calm and you pull your boat right up on the sand. It was warm and little cloudy, helicopters hovered close probably spotting a shark... Kat was distracted getting the camera and tripod out since I convinced her we were going to do a "photoshoot". Looking back it was a little insane bringing a diamond ring out on a boat and the beach, but it was worth it. I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. I really got her good! She was so surprised & thankfully said YES! As you can imagine, planning a wedding during these times is a challenge. But we knew it was time to get our lives started! We made plans to elope in Provincetown with a local Justice of the Peace and photographer.
Now for the wedding details :) We packed up the ‘81 Mercedes coupe (something old) with the dress, the suit (something blue), the shoes, the rings (something new), and ALL the champagne. Kat's family even sent her grandmother Jodie's fur coat to wear (something borrowed). The old diesel started up and the two of us were off to P-Town! We arrived in town a day early and settled into our lovely room overlooking the stormy ocean at the Waterford Inn. This would be the 3rd time staying there for NYE. It’s a thing now. The weather was constantly changing so we watched the app move the rain icon around all night. Luckily the rain stopped at noon and it was actually warm. 45 degrees! =P We got ourselves ready, hair and makeup thanks to youtube. Kat hand drew ‘Just Married’ on the car window and we even snuck in a 'first look', no small feat considering it was just the two of us. After a glass of champagne, with our photographer clicking away, we walked from the hotel to the town hall, which was amazing. People were congratulating us and waving as we paraded down the street. Even the police stopped to congratulate us. Seth took advantage and asked him not to tow his car, parked illegally in front of the town hall. As we arrived at the steps of the town hall we were greeted by Thomas Rose the JOP who helped make our moment amazing. In fact he included the whole city as our witnesses, which was accurate as there were people cheering and watching on the street. A truly surreal experience. After we read our vows and said I DO, we kissed and drove off to take more photos. Which you can check out on this site! Thanks for reading our little story book here. We wanted to share the adventures with you since we couldn’t be together last year. We miss you all so much! Good news is ‘Quarantined on the Outer Cape’, Season 2, is coming soon - and you’re all in it! Come visit! Love, Kat + Seth Kasper
