The Wedding Website of Ash Neubauer and Kat, Rhodes Neubauer
Truly, the best gift you can give is to celebrate with us! We have all the physical things that we need, and don't want any more! (That being said--cards and books for Ash are always gratefully received.) We know that some of you will still want to give, so we have set up two different funds. Both of us feel deeply connected to the land where we live; it's been an integral part of our lives and our relationship. We invite you to become part of the relationship we're creating with the land through your gifts--which, after all, are ultimately a reflection of your love for us and in celebration of the love between us! We ask that you give first to the Indigenous Reparations Fund, and if you feel moved to give beyond that, we also welcome your gifts to our Land Restoration Fund, which will go towards our own efforts to restore the land we steward. You can read more about them below. Gifts given freely are the best kind--so we ask that you do exactly and only what feels right to you!
Question

Indigenous Reparations Fund

Answer

We are just at the beginning of our journey to learn about what it means to be in relationship with land and with all the beings, past, present, and future, who live on it. We don't know what that will look like over our lifetimes, but we know that one way we can start is by sharing our resources with the Indigenous people who once lived on and stewarded the land where we live, before they were forcibly removed and their land stolen. We acknowledge and honor the nations that were here long before us: Peoria, Bodwéwadmi (Potawatomi), Myaamia, Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk), and Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo). We had hoped to choose a specific recipient for your gifts. But we've begun to learn about Indigenous ways of being: all beings are connected, and so we realized that it's important for us to move slowly and intentionally, with care, in choosing where to build relationships and share resources. We will continue our learning, and when we find the right place(s), we will pass on your generous gifts in addition to our own. _______ To contribute, you can Venmo @Rhodes-Waite; the last four digits of the phone number are 5078.

Question

Land Restoration Fund

Answer

While we do the work of relationship-building and learning how and where we can best work towards reparations, we will be stewarding the land under our care ourselves, listening and growing alongside it. We are currently focused on restoring native ecology and learning how to manage land for the benefit of all--including planting native plants, removing invasives, creating habitat, and growing food for ourselves, our community, and the other living creatures who reside there. Our goals and our choices will undoubtedly evolve as we learn and grow. We welcome you to be part of the relationship we're growing with the land we hope to have the privilege to steward throughout our lifetimes--and we hope to welcome you here, celebrating relationships and reciprocity, for many years to come! _______ To contribute, you can Venmo @Kat-Neubauer; the last four digits of the phone number are 6995.
