We first met at Camp Wildbrook in Cincinnati, OH in the summer of 2016. Both entering new stages of our lives - Katlyn entering her first year of teaching and Noah beginning his first year in graduate school. As former Miami University of Ohio alumni, there was a quick connection and immediate friendship. We realized through old photos and videos that we had been in the same places at the same time, but never found one another until now. As counselors, that summer consisted of intense soccer games and serving on the same service project for The Ronald McDonald House. Our friendship grew into much more as we found ourselves sharing a lot of the same ambitions, empathy towards others, and love for kids.
During the summer of 2020, we were itching to get away for a weekend after much quarantining and social-distancing. We landed on Asheville, North Carolina. Although the weekend mainly consisted of a lot of hiking and breweries, a visit to the Biltmore Estate was a must. We were the first car to enter The Biltmore on that rainy, Saturday morning and embraced the quiet lawns in front of The Biltmore, before making our way up to The Diana Statue. It was at that time that Noah pulled out a ring and a letter that he had written to Katlyn in the summer of 2016 when we first met. The proposal was paired beautifully with a speech we honestly don't remember (mainly because Katlyn was about to pass out). As an English teacher who is a sucker for letters and words, Katlyn's response to the ultimate, famous "question" was immediately...YES.
