It was a Wednesday; a colleague of Kat's asked what she was doing after work. While Kat had plans to meet a dear friend for happy hour, the colleague mentioned that she was going to be meeting Jeff to celebrate his birthday; he was also retiring in 2 weeks and moving to his family farm in SW Ohio. Kat jokingly asked if Jeff was cute and single. After some cajoling from her colleague and chatting with Karen during their happy hour. Karen threw Kat's famous responses back at her - "What's the worst thing that can happen? So Kat drove over to Slater's 50-50, in Henderson, to meet up with Lynn, who introduced Jeff to her. What a special night! We discovered we had much in common and had no issues with keeping a conversation going. It was as though we were the only people in the place, nevermind the person who brought us together. When it was time to go, Jeff walked Kat to her car and proceeded to collect her phone number and make preliminary plans to meet up again after the weekend. Fast forward to Sunday, February 6...Jeff calls Kat early in the afternoon asking if she was free for dinner that evening. Our first date - without others, was at Ventano's in Henderson NV. Once again, we had no trouble with carrying on a conversation and were so enthralled with each other that we ended up shutting down the restaurant. They flashed the lights trying to get us to finish up and leave. After that night, Kat and Jeff spent every moment possible together; given that Jeff was moving away to Ohio, on February 18. That date came upon them rather quickly and neither of them were ready to end their conversations or feelings for each other. Dealing with the challenges of a long-distance relationship was new. There was a three hour time difference between Hamilton OH and Las Vegas NV. However technology was in our favor; morning texts and evening video chats were a regular occurance as communication in any relationship is vital. Jeff often would joke about how he was unemployed and living in his mom's basement; however context is everything. While he was retired, he just stopped working for money. In April, Jeff flew back to Las Vegas to visit Kat, where they had time together doing touristy things. This was also when they recognized their feelings for each other were very strong and thoughts about how long can a long-distance relationship last were starting to creep in. Kat's line of thought was - it was just geography and it can be overcome. Jeff invited Kat to come to the family farm; so mid-June she took the red-eye flight from Las Vegas to Ohio. Jeff shared concerns about whether Kat would like the farm or could see herself on the farm. What Jeff didn't know is that Kat had grown up rural and around farmers. While he was nervous, Kat was reconnecting with a part of her upbringing that she had not thought about in decades. It was this trip where Jeff took Kat to Texas Roadhouse for dinner and asked her to consider moving to farm. While there were things to still work out pertaining to her sons, Kat was overjoyed and had to return to Las Vegas and start working on plans for the cross-country move. July 2022 - Jeff flew out to Las Vegas to help load Kat's belongings into a U-haul and drive her back to Ohio. Where they have been spending their days together in retirement: going to the gym, putting together a home, and traveling. While the initial plan for both Jeff and Kat was to be each other's forever person, there was not a push to be married. However, Jeff was able to pull of an incredible surprise. On their recent trip to Roatan, he conspired with Kat's family in secret to propose to her on the beach.
