Our Story

October 2015 - Present

We spent two years on the same tiny 67 mile strip of land in the middle of the Caribbean for vet school and never crossed paths. For both of us, our last year of school was spent at the University of Florida, where we met during a Cardiology rotation (and where Kyle met the infamous sphinx cat: "Patrick Suede-zy") and again on a Primary Care rotation (where we both found out we had passed the national licensing exam and were going to be vets!). From there we started grabbing dinner together after finishing our work in the hospital, going to see movies and watching Netflix shows together (like Derek, seriously it's adorable, you should check it out...). After graduating, Kyle took a job in Jacksonville, FL and I took a job in Winston-Salem, NC. From there, Kyle followed me to NC, then I followed Kyle to Rhode Island. Up here, we live in a wonderful (but slowly disintegrating) old house with our dog, Guinness, our two cats, Lyanna Mormont and Luciana Polptetonne (Lee and Lucy), and our rabbit, The Honorable Midge Mayberry Throttlebottom (Midge).

How He Proposed

August 17, 2020

We took a little vacation to ourselves with a trip up through New England mid-pandemic. We started out with 2 nights of camping in a little tent next to Mt. Cardigan Lodge in NH. Our first full day started out with some rest around the campsite, and the afternoon blueberry picking (or trying to... most of them were going bad or already picked). Around the time we decided to give up on our blueberries, we noticed the storm clouds rolling in, so we headed back to the campsite. The downpour started as we arrived, so we threw most of our stuff into the tent and headed in after it... We spent the evening sprawled out on our inflatable mattress inside the tent: shoring up our (not so waterproof) tent, playing cards by lantern light, and splitting a bottle of whiskey we had brought back from Ireland the previous June. We had just finished up an intense card game of high low jack, and I asked for a sip from the bottle which was on the floor by Kyle. Instead of coming up with the bottle, he sat up with a little black velvet box and told me he would get it... "but only if you let me spend the rest of my life with you." We celebrated with cold marinara, sun chip and cheese sandwiches as we originally had plans to cook on the fire that night (the best laid plans...), and it couldn't have been more perfect! <3
