Kassidy and Kleysen first crossed paths in the beautiful town of North Battleford, Saskatchewan (ha ha), when Kassidy flew out to attend her cousin’s wedding — her first-ever visit to the prairies. The night took a turn when his (slightly tipsy) sister excitedly declared, “You have to marry my brother!” and promptly introduced the two. They danced, laughed, and chatted the night away, but after Kassidy returned home — and eventually moved abroad — the connection stayed casual and distant. Years later, during the pandemic, Kleysen reached out unexpectedly, inviting Kassidy to the lake for a week. He’d been talking to her cousin about her and decided to take a leap. Kassidy thought it was a little crazy, but agreed to the spontaneous trip — and the spark reignited instantly. Within a week, he was on a plane to Kamloops. That summer turned into a series of cross-country visits, and by fall, Kassidy had moved in with him for the online semester. The rest, as they say, is history.
