PJ and Kassi met through their mutual friend, Kimmia, when they all got together to watch Iran play in the 2014 World Cup. Kimmia thought they would be good friends because they both had similar sarcastic senses of humor, and she was right--Kassi and PJ quickly became friends. They continued to hang out as friends for several months, but eventually, it was super obvious there was a connection. In early 2015, Kassi and PJ started officially dating.
In January 2018, Kassi was in New York visiting her best friend, Kimmia, like she does a few times a year. PJ told Kassi he was going to be really busy working on a group project (in Atlanta) for his masters program all weekend. He was definitely busy but not with a group project. He flew up to New York with a couple of their friends a few hours after Kassi and began working to surprise Kassi with his proposal (trust us, it's not easy to surprise Kassi). Before Kassi arrived in New York, Kimmia had told her that she was taking Kassi to an event for her law firm on Saturday night, but that first, Kimmia wanted to take Kassi to the covered rooftop on a nearby hotel that has insane views of the Manhattan skyline and grab a bite to eat in its restaurant. For context, this isn't out of the ordinary because Kassi LOVES rooftops and skylines and tries to go to as many as possible wherever she travels. When Kassi walked out onto the beautifully decorated rooftop at sunset, roses petals lined the pathway to PJ, who was waiting just out of sight. PJ got down on one knee and asked Kassi to marry him in front of their closest friends. After three years of dating and Kassi's incredibly obvious hints, PJ was still nervous about her response, but much to his delight, Kassi, of course, said YES!
