"I knew I had wanted to propose for a while, but I wanted to finish the course I was in progress with first in case if something happened and we had to move to another base. When the time was right, I went to the jewelry shop a few times when I got out of work early and finally pulled the trigger on the ring. I wanted to propose the next weekend at the lake, but it rained! Then, I wanted to go for a hike in our backyard with Karyn and propose there. I planned to use my drone to film it, but it ate a tree before I could do that. A week later, I decided to do it the morning before our Friendsgiving get together when we could celebrate with some of our friends later on. On December 7, 2019, I asked Karyn to go on a short walk outside our home in a field. With the camera ready, I knelt down and asked the big question, 'Are we doing this, Rahal?'" -Will
As things quickly changed around the world with the spread of the coronavirus, things were also changing with Will's role and the travel plans along with it. He came back from a short trip abroad in early spring of 2020, and Karyn and Will began planning to tie the knot on the Fourth of July 2020 before his next deployment. They planned to celebrate more after he came back. Little did they know, there would be many adjustments to their plan leading up to that day! After a lot of planning obstacles, they got married in a park in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina with a few close family members and their dog of honor, Atlas. With sparklers, fireworks, and plenty of chocolate cake, they had the sweetest time as brand new newly weds! With there being so many unknowns with the pandemic and Will's deployment schedule, they decided to postpone wedding celebration with all their family and friends.
A deployment and a few covid vaccines later, Karyn and Will plan to renew their vows and celebrate their love and commitment to one another on April 2, 2022. They are so excited to celebrate with you then!
